He dropped his debut EP with producer Fanatik in 1998, and followed up quickly with the singles "Definition of Ill" (Stones Throw) and "Place of Birth" (ABB Records). In 2001, The Source Magazine gave him the ‘First Round Draft Pick’ and ‘Independent Album of the Year’ awards for How the West Was One, which was recorded with fellow CA rapper Rasco under the group name Cali Agents. This landed him a deal with Interscope Records, where he was signed until 2003 without releasing an album. Planet Asia was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2002 for his feature on the song "W" by Mystic and was later signed to Avatar Records, which released his official debut album, The Grand Opening, in 2004. It earned him another ‘Independent Album of the Year’ award from The Source. Later, he started his own imprint Gold Chain Music, on which he has churned out multiple projects. He has also collaborated on albums with the likes of DJ Muggs (Pain Language), Evidence (The Medicine)and Madlib (Cracks In The Vinyl) among others and released songs with artists such as Linkin Park, Bun B, Talib Kweli and Ghostface Killah. The Fresno MC is fresh off of a strong 2017 which featured well-received collaborative albums with producers DirtyDiggs (Dirty Planet) and Apollo Brown (Anchovies). For 2018, Asia teamed up with Bay Area producer izznyce for a true solo project, The Golden Buddha, sure to be considered the next classic in his vast catalog. The Golden Buddha was produced entirely by izznyce (producer for Superstar Quamallah and more) and features AZ, Hus Kingpin, Turbin, Marvelous Mag, Killa Kali, TriState, Xiomara and The Architect. Today, Asia releases the first visual from the project, “Fireworks,” which was premiered by Hiphopdx. Speaking on the project, Planet Asia says: “This album represents the foundation of what Planet Asia is about and that is ‘balance’. Me and izznyce also took our time with the record, and had a chance to really vibe out and make the type of music we personally like that will stand the test of time!” Checkout the Hiphopdx Premiere: https://hiphopdx.com/videos/id.26430/title.dxclusive-planet-asia-preps-for-chinese-new-year-in-fireworks-video Tracklisting For Planet Asia’s ‘The Golden Buddha’: 1.) ‘Magnetic Lord’ 2.) ‘Fireworks’ 3.) ‘Hood Legends’ feat Cuts by The Architect 4.) ‘Smart Too Late’ 5.) ‘You Are King’ feat Xiomara 6.) ‘I Climb’ feat Marvelous Mag, Xiomara & Hus Kingpin 7.) ‘Shots At Your Highness’ feat Turbin 8.) ‘Pieces Hittin’ 9.) ‘Salute My G’s’ feat Marvelous Mag 10.) ‘Black Egypt’ feat TriState 11.) ‘Royal Blood’ feat Killa Kali 12.)’ Siddhartha’ 13.) ‘Take It Higher’ feat Xiomara 14.) ‘Fast Not Slow’ feat AZ 15.) ‘Fly Writtings’ (CD Bonus Track) Previous: Listen to Planet Asia’s “Hood Legends”: https://soundcloud.com/brickrecords/planet-asia-hood-legends-prod-by-izznyce-feat-cuts-by-the-architect Listen to Planet Asia f/ Turbin “Shots At Your Highness”: https://soundcloud.com/brickrecords/planet-asia-shots-at-your-highness-feat-turbin-prod-by-izznyce

GQ - Can't Run (video)

From the Jamla Records release "E 14th". 2017 Jamla Records.

GQ is the artist 9th Wonder calls his “secret weapon” at Jamla Records. Over the past few years, the Bay area native has released several records (including 2014’s Rated Oakland) as part of the label roster that have cemented his reputation as an artist with fine lyricism and a clearly defined voice

Apollo Brown & Planet Asia - Get Back | Official Video

The new album "Anchovies" from Detroit's Apollo Brown and Fresno's Planet Asia isn't for everybody. It's lo-fi, nasty, and minimalist to the extreme. But for some, it's absolutely perfect. Stripped down to accentuate Asia's bars, Apollo Brown lays a gorgeous backdrop for gutter tales.

The new album "Anchovies" from Detroit's Apollo Brown and Fresno's Planet Asia is out now! Peep the new vid "Get Back" for that grimey work.

Rapsody "Fire" produced by Kash, Khrysis and 9th Wonder

Rapsody is back with a new track that is simultaneously a call to arms, an indictment of America, a message of hope – all compacted in an amazingly uplifting song. The track, called “Fire,” references the stunning (but not too stunning, this is America, after all) victory of hate, white supremacy, sexism, and white nationalism’s last stand as embodied in the ugly blob of orange xenophobia and grotesque synthetic hair composed of white fragility that is Donald J. Trump. A few months back it was announced that the North Carolina rapper signed to Roc Nation. “Fire” was produced by Kash, Khrysis, and 9th Wonder. Rapsody begins the track by saying “Joy coming in the morning. The sun rise tomorrow no matter how dark the night is. You feel me, right?” Rapsody continues, as the immaculately produced beat drops, “We gon still be alright, joy come in the morning/ we just gotta last for the night/ them mask come off tonight/ don’t matter who in the big house/ we still gon march and fight/word to the people/whaddup.” And make sure to listen on for a crazy switch up in the beat.
